Each objective in a curriculum is tagged to a year group which corresponds to the year group a pupil is in.  The Markbook Overview Reports look at the attainment for the objectives that are tagged with the same year group as the pupil.  This allows the reports to show data that is relevant to each pupil's own age related expectations. For example, in a class that contains both Year 3 and Year 4 pupils, the Year 3 pupils' attainment would be classified based on their attainment of Year 3 objectives and Year 4 pupils' attainment would be classified based on their attainment of year 4 objectives.

The Group Matrix report uses the same criteria as the Markbook Overview Reports, allowing for meaningful data to be generated for a mixed age class.

The other Progress Reports require an ability, or abilities, that you want to analyse, to be specified.  For these reports you may find it useful to create some age related groups in order to use these reports most effectively.  Groups can be set up in Group Management.  Pupils can be added in to the groups in Pupil Group Membership and teachers can be given access to the group through Teacher Group Management.
