What's the difference between 'Ability' and 'Year' in menus?

Every objective in a markbook framework can have:
Up to 1 'Year' tag: Associates the objective with a specific year group (age related). Selecting a year group will load all objectives associated with that year group.
and/or
Up to 2 'Ability' tags: Associates the objective with an ability which is not a year group e.g. KS1, Milepost 2, Y2 WTS. Selecting an ability level will load all objectives associated with that ability level
